Order

1 Title

This order is the Public Service (Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions, and Transport) Order 2026.

2 Commencement

(1)

This order comes into force on 1 July 2026.

(2)

However, clause 4(1) comes into force on 1 April 2026.

3 Principal Act

This order amends the Public Service Act 2020.

4 Part 1 of Schedule 2 amended

(1)

In Schedule 2, Part 1, insert in its appropriate alphabetical order:

Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions, and Transport

(2)

In Schedule 2, Part 1, repeal the item relating to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

(3)

In Schedule 2, Part 1, repeal the item relating to the Ministry of Transport.

5 Part 3 of Schedule 2 amended

(1)

In Schedule 2, Part 3, item relating to the Climate Change Chief Executives Board, second column, insert in its appropriate alphabetical order:

Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions, and Transport

In Schedule 2, Part 3, item relating to the Climate Change Chief Executives Board, second column, repeal the item relating to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

In Schedule 2, Part 3, item relating to the Climate Change Chief Executives Board, second column, repeal the item relating to the Ministry of Transport.

(4)

In Schedule 2, Part 3, item relating to the Climate Change Chief Executives Board, third column, replace the item relating to the Ministry for the Environment with:

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order amends the Public Service Act 2020 (the Act) to reflect the establishment of the Ministry for Cities, Environment, Regions, and Transport (the new ministry) and the disestablishment of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Ministry of Transport (the old ministries).

The order inserts the name of the new ministry into the list of departments of the Public Service set out in Part 1 of Schedule 2 of the Act. The effect of this amendment, which comes into force on 1 April 2026, is that the new ministry becomes a public service agency to which the Act applies.

Further amendments, which come into force on 1 July 2026, make the following changes to Schedule 2 of the Act:

removing the old ministries from the list of departments of the Public Service set out in Part 1:
removing the old ministries from the list of departments in the remit of the Climate Change Chief Executives Board set out in the second column of Part 3:
replacing the Ministry for the Environment with the new ministry as the servicing department for the Climate Change Chief Executives Board set out in the third column of Part 3.
