Order

1 Title

This order is the Rates Rebate (Specified Amounts) Order 2024.

2 Commencement

This order comes into force on 1 July 2024.

3 Principal Act

Clause 4 amends the Rates Rebate Act 1973.

4 Section 3 amended (Rates rebate)

In section 3(1)(a)(ii), replace “$30,100” with “$31,510”.

(2)

In section 3(1)(b), replace “$750” with “$790”.

5 Revocation

The Rates Rebate (Specified Amounts) Order 2023 (SL 2023/104) is revoked.

6 Saving

A ratepayer’s entitlement to a rebate for a rating year ending before 1 July 2024, and the amount (if any) of that rebate, must be determined as if this order had not been made.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order, which comes into force on 1 July 2024, amends section 3(1) of the Rates Rebate Act 1973. That section provides for a rates rebate for low-income home owners.

This order—

increases the income threshold for a rates rebate from $30,100 to $31,510; and
increases the maximum rates rebate from $750 to $790.

1 General

This is a consolidation of the Rates Rebate (Specified Amounts) Order 2024 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.

2 Legal status
