These regulations are made under section 67(1)(d) and (2)(a) of the Electronic Identity Verification Act 2012 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.

Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the Electronic Identity Verification Amendment Regulations 2022.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 5 January 2023.
3 Principal regulations
These regulations amend the Electronic Identity Verification Regulations 2013.
4 New regulation 3A inserted (Transitional, savings, and related provisions)
After regulation 3, insert:
3A Transitional, savings, and related provisions
The transitional, savings, and related provisions set out in Schedule 1AA have effect according to their terms.
5 Regulation 6 amended (Duration of electronic identity credential)
In regulation 6(1), (2), (3), and (4), replace “5 years”
with “10 years”
.
6 New Schedule 1AA inserted
Insert the Schedule 1AA set out in the Schedule of these regulations as the first schedule to appear after the last regulation of the principal regulations.
7 Schedule 1 amended
In Schedule 1, insert in their appropriate alphabetical order:

The Independent Mortgage Company Limited

Part 1 Provisions relating to Electronic Identity Verification Amendment Regulations 2022
1 Expiry of electronic identity credentials issued or renewed before 5 January 2023
(1)
This clause applies to an electronic identity credential that—
(a)
was issued before 5 January 2023 and has not been renewed; or
(b)
was most recently renewed before 5 January 2023.
(2)
An electronic identity credential to which this clause applies continues to be effective until the date calculated in accordance with regulation 6 as it read immediately before amendment by the Electronic Identity Verification Amendment Regulations 2022.
(3)
To avoid doubt, after 5 January 2023 an electronic identity credential to which this clause applies may be renewed for a period calculated in accordance with regulation 6 as amended.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 5 January 2023, amend the Electronic Identity Verification Regulations 2013.
These regulations authorise Ezsy Limited, Remitly NZ Limited, The Independent Mortgage Company Limited, and Web 3 Limited to use the Electronic Identity Verification Service (as described in section 55 of the Electronic Identity Verification Act 2012).
They also extend the duration period of an electronic identity credential from 5 years to 10 years. This new duration period applies only to an electronic identity credential that is issued or renewed after these regulations come into force. Any electronic identity credential that is issued or renewed before these regulations come into force remains effective for 5 years.
An example of an electronic identity credential is a RealMe verified identity.
