These regulations are made under section 303 of the Education Act 1989 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.
Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the Student Allowances Amendment Regulations 2016.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 28 March 2016.
3 Principal regulations
These regulations amend the Student Allowances Regulations 1998 (the principal regulations).
4 Schedule 2 amended
Amend Schedule 2 as set out in the Schedule of these regulations.
Schedule Amendments to Schedule 2 of principal regulations
Clause 1
In clause 1(1), replace the table with:

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 28 March 2016, amend the Student Allowances Regulations 1998.
The amendments increase the rates of basic grants payable to students who have 1 or more supported children to align with the increases on 1 April 2016 to the rates of benefits under the Social Security Amendment Act (No 2) 2015.
The rates are adjusted to effect an increase, after deduction of tax, of—
$25 per week for single students:
$25 per week for married or partnered students if the student’s spouse or partner does not receive, or is not eligible to receive, the basic grant:
$12.50 per week for married or partnered students if the student’s spouse or partner receives the basic grant.
