These regulations are administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment.
Pursuant to section 26 of the Standards Act 1988, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.
Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the Standards Regulations 2006.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 1 December 2006.
3 Nominations and appointments to Council
When appointing members of the Council under section 4(1)(b) of the Act, the Minister must include—
(a)
not more than 3 persons selected from nominations made by the following bodies, each of which may nominate 1 person:
(i)
New Zealand Institute of Architects Incorporated:
(ii)
New Zealand Institute of Chemistry Incorporated:
(iii)
Institution of Professional Engineers of New Zealand Incorporated:
(iv)
Federated Farmers of New Zealand Incorporated:
(v)
Business New Zealand Incorporated:
(vi)
Registered Master Builders Federation of New Zealand Incorporated:
(b)
not more than 1 person selected from nominations made by the following bodies, each of which may nominate 1 person:
(i)
Electricity Networks Association Incorporated:
(ii)
New Zealand Local Government Association Incorporated:
(c)
not more than 1 person selected from nominations made by the following bodies, each of which may nominate 1 person:
(i)
New Zealand Chambers of Commerce Incorporated:
(ii)
New Zealand Retailers Association Incorporated:
(d)
not more than 1 person selected from nominations made by the following bodies, each of which may nominate 1 person:
(i)
New Zealand Vice-Chancellors Committee established under section 240 of the Education Act 1989:
(ii)
Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics of New Zealand Incorporated:
(e)
not more than 1 person selected from nominations made by the following bodies, each of which may nominate 1 person:
(i)
National Council of Women of New Zealand Incorporated:
(ii)
The New Zealand Federation of Women’s Institutes Incorporated:
(iii)
Rural Women New Zealand:
(f)
not more than 1 person selected from nominations made by the following bodies, each of which may nominate 1 person:
(i)
Consumers’ Institute of New Zealand Incorporated:
(ii)
New Zealand Council of Trade Unions Incorporated.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations come into force on 1 December 2006. They set out the way in which nominations and appointments to the Standards Council may be made under section 4(2) of the Standards Act 1988.
Until amendments were made to the Standards Act 1988 in September 2006, the contents of these regulations were set out in section 4 of the Standards Act 1988.
