This note is not part of the rules, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These rules come into force on 4 October 2015 and amend the Lotto Rules 2000.

The amendments relate to the introduction of a mid-week lotto draw. They—

• replace and amend respectively the definitions of board and coupon so that new coupons can be introduced that allow players to select the number of lines they would like to play, rather than having to choose particular numbers; and

• make it clear that lucky dip selections can be made for multiple draws; and

• remove the potential for the standard lotto division one prize pool to jackpot if it is not won. The maximum division one prize allocation for standard lotto is expected to be $1 million per draw, as determined by Lotto NZ; and

• add a new prize division for lotto powerball. The new division 7 will have a fixed prize of $12; and

• allow Lotto NZ to determine the maximum allocation to division one in respect of lotto powerball in the same way as it is able to do for standard lotto; and

• make changes to percentages payable to the prize pool and the prize reserve fund to facilitate the introduction of mid-week lotto; and

• revoke the Big Wednesday Rules 2005, because Big Wednesday will no longer be offered.

These rules are a legislative instrument and a disallowable instrument for the purposes of the Legislation Act 2012 and must be presented to the House of Representatives under section 41 of that Act.
