Note
These regulations are administered in the Ministry of Social Development.
Pursuant to section 303 of the Education Act 1989, Her Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.
Contents
1 Title
-
(1) These regulations are the Student Allowances Amendment Regulations (No 2) 2002.
(2) In these regulations, the Student Allowances Regulations 19981 are called
“the principal regulations”
.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 1 October 2002.
3 Interpretation
4 Eligibility for certain allowances
Regulation 12(3)(b) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the word
“has”
, and substituting the words“is not or has”
.
5 Student not eligible for certain allowances where student or spouse receiving social security payments
6 Amount of accommodation benefit and period for which benefit payable
Regulation 24(1) of the principal regulations is amended by inserting, before the word
“weekly”
, the word“applicable”
.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 1 October 2002, amend the Student Allowances Regulations 1998 “(the principal regulations”
) by increasing the weekly value of the accommodation allowance for a single student with a supported child or children from a maximum of $40 a week to a maximum of $60 a week, with effect from the beginning of the academic year commencing on 1 January 2003. These regulations also make minor changes of a tidying up nature to the principal regulations.
