Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations amend the Fisheries (Challenger Area Amateur Fishing) Regulations 1986, which relate to recreational fishing. The amendments change the minimum mesh size for set nets used to catch butterfish or red moki in the Challenger Fisheries Management Area. The amendments also change the minimum size limit for sand flounder in the Challenger Fisheries Management Area.
The minimum mesh size for set nets used for butterfish in the area is now 100 mm (instead of 108 mm).
The minimum mesh size for set nets used for red moki in the area is now 114 mm (instead of 115 mm). This now matches the minimum mesh size for set nets used for blue moki in the area.
The minimum size for sand flounder taken or possessed in the area is now 25 cm in length (instead of 23 cm).
The new minimum mesh sizes and minimum size limit for the area override those specified by regulation 6 of the Fisheries (Amateur Fishing) Regulations 1986.
These regulations come into force on 1 October 2009.
