Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order, which comes into force on 7 June 2012, is made under the Major Events Management Act 2007 (the Act). It amends the Act's Schedule, which contains permanently protected emblems and words. Use of those words and emblems that is not authorised or covered by an exception is, under sections 28 to 31 of the Act, an offence for which the maximum penalty is a fine not exceeding $150,000. The amendments add 2 New Zealand Commonwealth Games emblems to Part 1, add “New Zealand Youth Olympic Team”
and “New Zealand Youth Olympic Winter Team”
to the names in clause 1 of Part 2, and replace Part 3. New Part 3 contains words relating to, in particular, the Games that are the—
2012 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in Austria:
2012 Olympic Games in London in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland:
2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in the Russian Federation:
2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland:
2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
New Part 3 also contains “Olympics”
