Standards Amendment Act 2006: repealed, on 1 March 2016, pursuant to section 46(1) of the Standards and Accreditation Act 2015 (2015 No 91).

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
This Act is the Standards Amendment Act 2006.
2 Commencement
3 Principal Act amended
This Act amends the Standards Act 1988.
4 Interpretation
The definition of specification in section 2 is amended by omitting “description of goods”
in the first place where it appears and substituting “description of, or instruction, requirement, statement, or principle relating to, goods”
.
5 New section 2A inserted
The following section is inserted after section 2:
2A Act binds the Crown
This Act binds the Crown.
6 Membership of Council
(1)
Section 4(2) is repealed and the following subsection substituted:
(2)
When appointing members under subsection (1)(b), the Minister must appoint from nominations made by nominating bodies as set out in regulations made under section 26.
(2)
Section 4(3) is amended by omitting “specified in paragraph (a), paragraph (b), paragraph (c), paragraph (d), paragraph (e), or paragraph (f) of that subsection”
and substituting “specified in the regulations”
.
7 Functions of Council
(1)
Section 10(1) is amended by adding “; or”
and also by adding the following paragraphs:
(e)
minimising environmental risks; or
(f)
promoting social responsibility.

Section 10(2)(d) is amended by adding “and other specifications”
.
(4)
Section 10(2)(h) is amended by inserting “and other specifications”
after “standards”
.
(5)
Section 10(2)(i) is amended by adding “or that the Minister may direct it to perform in accordance with section 112 of the Crown Entities Act 2004”
.
8 New heading and section 26 inserted
The following heading and section are inserted after section 25:
Regulations
26 Regulations
The Governor-General may, by Order in Council, make regulations that provide for the way in which nominations and appointments may be made under section 4(2).
