The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
-
(1) This Act is the Tariff (Zero Duty Removal) Amendment Act 2000.
(2) In this Act, the Tariff Act 1988 is called
“the principal Act”
.
2 Commencement
This Act comes into force on 1 June 2000.
3 Repeal of provisions relating to removal and reductions of tariff duties
-
(2) The principal Act is consequentially amended—
(a) by omitting from section 2 the words
“, subject to sections 3A and 3B,”
where they appear in the definitions of the terms Normal Tariff, Preferential Tariff, Standard Tariff, and Tariff:
(b) by omitting from section 3 the words
“(but subject to sections 3A and 3B)”
:
(c) by omitting note A1 from the beginning of Schedule 1.
4 Repeal of Tariff (Zero Duty) Amendment Act 1998
The Tariff (Zero Duty) Amendment Act 1998 (1998 No 100) is repealed.
5 Cancellation of future reductions in duty by Order in Council
Nothing in section 9(2) of the principal Act prevents the Governor-General from making an Order in Council that has the effect of revoking or cancelling any reduction or removal of duty if—
-
(a) the reduction or removal of duty—
(i) is specified in an Order in Council; and
(ii) has not yet taken effect; and
