An Act to amend the Health Act 1956
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement
-
(1) This Act may be cited as the Health Amendment Act 1987, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Health Act 1956 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
(2) This Act shall come into force on the 28th day after the date on which it receives the Governor-General's assent.
2 Department of Health

(2) Section 2 of the Health Amendment Act 1960, and the Schedule to that Act, are hereby consequentially repealed.
Subsection (1) was impliedly repealed, as from 1 July 1993, by section 3(1)(a) Health Amendment Act 1993 (1993 No 24).

5 Certain references in other enactments consequentially changed

(1) Every reference in any enactment passed before the date of the commencement of this Act to any Deputy Director-General of Health shall hereafter be read as a reference to the Director-General of Health.
(2) Every reference in any enactment passed before the date of the commencement of this Act to any Division of the Ministry shall hereafter be read as a reference to the Ministry of Health.
(3) Every reference in any enactment passed before the date of the commencement of this Act to the Director, Deputy-Director, or Assistant Director of any Division of the Ministry shall be read as a reference to the Director-General.
Section 5 was amended, as from 1 July 1993, by substituting the expressions
“Ministry”
and“Ministry of Health”
for references to“Department”
and“Department of Health”
respectively, by section 38(3) Health Amendment Act 1993 (1993 No 24).

11 Grants and subsidies for refuse disposal works, sewerage works, and water supplies

(1) This subsection substituted section 27A of the principal Act.
(2) The Local Government Amendment Act 1979 is hereby consequentially amended by repealing so much of Part 3 of Schedule 3 as relates to section 27A(2) of the principal Act.

16 Repeal
The Health Amendment Act 1970 is hereby consequentially repealed.

An item relating to the Toxic Substances Act 1979 was omitted, as from 2 July 2001, by section 150(1) Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (1996 No 30). See Parts 11 to 16 of that Act (comprising sections 151 to 259) as to the transitional provisions. See clause 2 Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act Commencement Order (No 2) 2001 (SR 2001/171).
