An Act to amend the Crimes Act 1961
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement
(1)
This Act may be cited as the Crimes Amendment Act 1991, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Crimes Act 1961 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
(2)
This Act shall come into force on the 15th day of August 1991.
2 Right of appeal against conviction or sentence
Section 383 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection (1), and substituting the following subsection:
“(1)
Any person convicted on indictment may appeal to the Court of Appeal against—
“(a)
The conviction; or
“(b)
The sentence passed on the conviction (unless the sentence is one fixed by law); or
“(c)
Both.”
This Act is administered in the Department of Justice.
