Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 1 July 2009, amend the Animal Products (Fees, Charges, and Levies) Regulations 2007, which provide for the payment of fees, charges, and levies payable under the Animal Products Act 1999 (the principal Act).

The amendments—

  • add 2 new items to Part 1 of Schedule 1, which sets out fees payable in respect of approvals, accreditations, and registrations under the principal Act. The new fees that are added relate to applications to be certified as either a certified supplier (wild animals) or a certified game estate supplier under the Animal Products (Specifications for Products Intended for Human Consumption) Notice 2004 and applications for listing as a further (pet food) processor under the Animal Products (Specifications for Products Intended for Animal Consumption) Notice 2006:

  • substitute new charges in Part 7 of Schedule 1, which relate to New Zealand Food Safety Authority verification charges:

  • increase the levies per head (GST exclusive) where animals are slaughtered and dressed for operators that process wholly or partly export lambs, bobby calves, and goats from $0.09 per head to $0.10 per head, sheep from $0.08 per head to $0.11 per head, and cattle and horses from $0.69 per head to $0.76 per head.
