This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is made under regulation 5 of the Fisheries (1986-87 Commercial Quotas) Regulations 1986 (SR 1986/256) which is authorised by section 89(1)(g) of the Fisheries Act 1983.
The notice allocates quotas for squid taken by trawling and some of the quota for squid taken by any method whatsoever. The remaining 7374 tonnes of quota for all waters outside the Southern Islands Area is unallocated.
There is no allocation of the quotas set under the regulations for squid taken by jigging, jack mackerel, or southern bluefin tuna. Unallocated quotas are available for taking by competitive fishing by commercial fishermen who have not been allocated any of the quota.
